Tip #2

Hi Guys,
Ready for Tip #2?

Here it is:
CLEAN UP.

Thats it. Wasn't that a short tip? Don't worry i'm going to talk more about it. So when you are babysitting it is always a HUGE blessing for the parents to come home to a cleaner house then when they left. Don't stress over getting the house perfectly clean because the kids are your main focus. You don't want them to feel like you're distracted and don't want to play with them. When they are sleeping that is a good time to just do a quick pickup and sweep. If they don't go to sleep in the time you are there, then just encourage the kids to pick up after they have finished playing. Also make sure to wash all the dishes, unless there is a HUGE pile i usually do them all, especially the ones that you and the kids used while you were there. Happy Babysitting!

Activities From Abby

Hello, Sorry I haven't posted in awhile!

Here is one of the activities that never seems to fail with kids of all ages.... Hide and Go Seek!
Lots of kids love finding the babysitter and even littler kids will enjoy this if you draw out the game searching in spots you know they aren't! They will get a kick out of the fact that you don't know where they are!

Tip #1

Hello Friends!
Today I will be sharing my first ever Tip!

If you are babysitting at night and the parents don't tell you when the child's bedtime is... ASK THEM! This is very important. Once I was babysitting and the parents told me that the children's bedtime was around 8:30. I put them to bed and all was well.... but as soon as their parents walked in the door they both flew out their room. It was very embarrassing for me because the parents had TOLD me they should be in bed by the time they got home and they were, but they got up. Here is what you can do to avoid that kind of situation:

  • Ask parents for special instructions about child's bedtime routine, any special stuffed animal, night light, special pj's, anything that they are used to that will make them feel ready for bed.
  • Have fun! Wear those kids out! Play hard! Help them to get all their energy out.
  • Start giving them little warnings about how soon bedtime is about 45 minutes before the actual bedtime.
  • Read them books when they are in bed to help them relax.
  • Firmly but kindly tell them that their parent's told you that they had to be in bed by "this certain amount of time". Then tell them you will be right outside and that they need to go to sleep.
  • Make sure you aren't forgetting any parts of their sleep routine.

Now, I am NOT by any means a expert, I have only been babysitting for about 3 years. This blog is not to show you things you are doing wrong but things that can make your babysitting experience better for you and for the kids. I can bet that I have had trouble with every single one of the things I post here, so DON"T WORRY, nobody's perfect and you are not the only one. :)
Good Luck!
